Diabetic foot is a complication of diabetes and a very hard situation for the person suffering from diabetes. The condition is both painful and common. The symptoms may start appearing immediately after the onset of disease if the blood sugar levels are very high. In fact, the doctor may diagnose diabetes when the patient complains of pain and numbness in the lower part of his limb.

The reason for involvement of the foot in the diabetes is that high blood sugar cause neuropathy or pathology of nerves. The most common type of neuropathy involved in diabetes is peripheral neuropathy where the sensory and motor nerves of the limb itself are involved. Sensory nerves when affected can cause the common symptoms of the diabetic foot. The patient feels tingling, burning, cutting type of pains and numbness accompanies all these symptoms. The pain reaction is much higher than the stimulus. For instance, slight touch; pressure can trigger the pain reaction.

The blood glucose levels must be closely monitored if the patient complains of any such symptoms and if higher immediate pain relief must be suggested. Usually, massaging the limb with warm oils is of great help. Diabetic foot can be controlled by the use of drugs, moderate exercises as well as a proper diabetic diet plan to stabilize blood sugar levels. This will prevent the onset of the motor neuropathy which always follows the sensory nerve involvement.
